Appeal Court Verdict: Deltans In Jubilation Mood

Following the Appeal Court verdict which sacked Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan as the governor of  Delta State, reactions have continued to trail the court verdict. Expectedly, residents of the state especially in Asaba, have rolled out their drums in jubilation of his sack.Leadership checks revealed that thousands of persons in the state capital yesterday were seen in happy mood at various relaxation points.
Though, there was relative peace in all nooks and crannies, but respondents who spoke to our correspondent in Asaba said it was  victory for our  nascent democracy, adding that judiciary again lived up to expectation. An aide to Chief Great Ogboru, Democratic People's Party (DPP) governorship candidate in the 2007 election, Mr. Tony Ezeagwu said Deltans are in a jubilant mood, adding that the judgment has brought hope for the common man and the oppressed.
According to him; "We are not saying Chief Ogboru must be a governor at all cost, but what we are happy about is the fact that there was no election in 2007 which the court also upheld".
Further checks by leadership revealed that newspaper Vendors including Okada riders were seen in groups discussing the issue in apparent happiness and in most cases, offer free reading service at the newsstands, while the Okada riders were also on hand to give  free rides.
However, the situation in other parts  state was said to be different from that in Asaba, especially in Oghara home town of the former Governor James Ibori, who is a cousin to  Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan.
People were seen in groups discussing in hush  tone the sad event which befell their son.
Some traders interviewed, one of them, Madam Omoteghe Ogho a septuagenarian, disclosed that Dr Uduaghan  administration was  fraught with irregularities, adding that it was an abysmal failure in the provision of basic amenities .
She said that Uduaghan only empowered his wife and children as no development took place during his time.
Some doctors who spoke under the coalition of anonymity, described Dr Uduaghan as a greedy and selfish governor, pointing out that the medical doctors were completely left out in the scheme of things.
"He did nothing to justify that he was part of us. Rather we were victims of circumstances" they added.
Business activity was relatively at a low ebb as the strike action embarked upon by the labour union also contributed to the lull. But security agents kept vigil on persons with searching vehicles both commercial and private .
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman in the state, Barr Peter Nwaoboshi said the party received  the court judgment shock adding that it has accepted it in good faith.
Barr Nwaoboshi however, enjoined members of the party to remain calm while  urging them to go about their lawful activities.
He thanked the party faithful and Deltans for their support and understanding in the last three and half years and assured that the party was ready for a re-run election.
